Trying to find a fun ways to get your child familiar with the alphabet? Check out these 3 fun, easy activities!

Being on maternity leave is absolutely amazing and I wouldn't change it for anything!!! But there are days where sometimes a part of me misses teaching, so it's so fun to channel my inner teacher and create some fun learning activities for Grayson!! I try to keep my activities to low cost, easy to prepare and lots of fun!

My goal is for him to have fun and maybe learn a letter or two along the way!

One thing to keep in mind is that kids learn better when the material has meaning to them. Not all preschool-kindergarten kids are passionate about the alphabet, however a lot of them are intrigued about their name, so start with the letters in your child's name and solidify those first!

Here are a few of our favourite activities:

1) Letter Sticker Match Up

What you need:

  • Construction paper

  • Sharpie

  • Round small color circles

  • Tape

Instructions:

1) Write each letter of their name in individual pieces of construction paper.

2) Write the same letters on the round stickers (we mixed them up so not all the g's were red as it added a little challenge for him).

3) Tape the construction paper letters to the wall.

4) Have your child match the stickers to the write paper on the wall.

**I also did this activity for Jax who is 6. Instead of letters I used sight words. He loved it and it was a lot more fun then flash cards 😉 **

2) Sprinkle Writing

What you need:

  • A low tray

  • A paint brush

  • Letter flash cards

  • Sprinkles (sand or salt would work too)

Instruction:

1) Fill the bottom of the tray with the sprinkles.

2) Choose the flashcards that make up your child's name aND place them on the top of the pile.

3) Using the paintbrush have your child practice writing the letter in the sprinkles.

3) Magnetic Letter Matching

What you need:

  • Magnetic letters

  • Dry erase marker

  • Cookie sheet

Instructions:

1) Using the dry erase marker, write each letter of the alphabet on the cookie sheet.

2) Have your child match the magnetic letter on top of the correct letter on the cookie sheet.
