It's no secret in our family Jax loves his co-sleeping, although after 3 years old I'm not sure it's called co-sleeping it's more like "i lost the longest argument of my life so get to sleep even if it's in my bed"

Modern DIY Boys Room
April 2017 after sharing a room for 6 months I knew inspiring him to sleep in his own room cold turkey really wouldn't go over well if I didn't make it a BIG deal. With so many changes happening to our household I wanted Jax to feel like he had his own space to be proud of! I knew some of the components I wanted, and as we went along the theme evolved into this modern DIY boys room!
This is what we were working with!

I knew the first thing I needed to do was to lighten up the terrible almost orange tone colour that was on the walls. I used BEHR Ultra campfire ash in Matte. This colour is a go to for me it's so perfect & crisp!

Jax was SET on a loft bed, to my better judgment that just had to get vittoed. Jax's sleeping style is best described as Cirque Du Soleil! So we went with a bed with a slightly smaller clearance and it turns out it was the perfect fit! Country Lane Decor FAR exceeded my expectations on the perfect bed and matching growth chart! It was the very first purchase that kick started the entire room!
The next project I recruited my amazing mama to help me with! The inspiration came from this blog post, she adapted the method and used simple nails vs. staple gun and I just LOVE the look! each frame cost 6$ for the wood and the engineered prints were 5.88 for 3! I already had the wood stain so this was by far the thriftiest project! Since we're rocking the blended family life I wanted to really incorporate Jax's whole family into the room. The top photo is his step brother and sisters at his dad's house and the bottom are his step siblings at our house. It was his favourite aspect of the room by far!

Since I knew I wanted to weave in some rustic touches these curtain tie backs stole my entire heart! The vegetarian in me wasn't keen on the fact that they were real, but after searching the internet high and low nothing at all compared! The amazing etsy seller assured me they were shed antlers she found and no animals were harmed! I am SO happy we chose to splurge on these they really added the perfect touch.
I loved the simplicity of the black & grey colours, and the rustic touches the antlers and weathered grey wood stained furniture brought.
When Jax is at his Daddy's house they love the outdoors life, it's all about that camo print & rustic adventure, incorporating this aspect of his life was really important to me.

After rocking the single mama life for so long and being familiar with the struggle of not being able to buy your children all the things you'd like you end up with a solid arsenal of want items. For me this teepee was exactly that, I always knew he would LOVE a teepee but the 300$ just wasn't ever near my budget, so finally it was teepee time!!! Modern Teepee was AMAZING, from the customer service to prompt delivery & quality they so far exceeded our expectations! Jax being a big 6 year old I wanted something that would accommodate his tall stature. It was a bit of a stretch but I'm really happy with the teepee corner, it was a huge hit, he's even slept in there...SCORE!

This small desk area I really wasn't sure we would have space for, after searching everywhere for the 'perfect' desk I had given up on the idea. One afternoon Jax pointed to a front entry way area and asked if the small table could be his desk....DING I painted it with some BEHR White paint I had laying around and BAM! Next was the chair I already had but never knew what to do with, it was my grandmothers grandmothers chair and has such great history and charm! I found this fabric at ikea and with the help of some stables and glue it all came together!
The desk needed a small rustic touch and this knob from anthropologie added the perfect touch!

With this room being a total surprise it was fun to incorporate his requests! He has always hinted not so subtly that he wanted a chalkboard wall in his room, this little area was total wasted space so turning it into a fun little spot added such character! I love seeing all the fun things they put on there.

The very last touches were solved with a trip to Pottery Barn Kids! Their Emily & Meritt collection fit perfectly with the theme and tied it all together! The bandit sheets even added some playfulness to his bedding and they were organic! SCORE
Since books are always a source of clutter I wanted some shelves that matched his bed, didn't break the bank and could hold a lot of books. Rustic Grain designs took all my pins I sent over and made exactly what I had in mind!

I'm so happy with how this room turned out, al the amazing local artisans that were supported and most of all the joy it brought my sweet deserving boy. This is his first real room that I was able to have fun with and fulfill my vision for! It must have been what he was waiting for because to my surprise he's slept in here every night!
